WORKING WITH WORDS AND MAKING GENUINE, HUMAN CONNECTIONS IS A WAY OF LIFE

I TRULY BELIEVE THAT A CLIENT-EDITOR RELATIONSHIP BASED ON COMFORTABILITY AND HONESTY IS ESSENTIAL TO A BOOK REACHING ITS FULLEST POTENTIAL.

I am a Mi’kmaw (Eskasoni First Nation) and settler author and certified professional editor. Since 2016 I have provided editing services and sensitivity readings with a focus on Indigenous literature.

I have worked as an editorial consultant for Indigenous youth in the Bridge to Publishing Program, and was previously associate editor for the award-winning Inuit Art Quarterly magazine. I am an advocate for Indigenous publishing practices, and have spoken on panels for Editors Canada, Magazines Canada, and BIPOC of Publishing in Canada.

I have a BA in Communications from York University and an Editing Certification from Simon Fraser University.

My first children’s book, The Wandering Feather, will be published September 16, 2025.

Copy editing, proofreading, and sensitivity readings are my craft. Through my work I merge editorial excellence, personal connection, and my understandings of Indigenous knowledges to provide services that are the perfect match for publishers' needs.

THE GUIDING VALUES

I'M HERE TO MAKE YOU FEEL SUPPORTED. IF YOU SHARE THE SAME VALUES AS THE ONES I HAVE LISTED BELOW, WE MIGHT JUST BE A GREAT FIT.

01

The power that
stories hold

I believe voices from all backgrounds, experiences, and parts of the world are needed in the publishing industry.

02

The importance
of trust

The mutual trust between client and editor is essential; without trust, there is nothing. It is important that the people I work with feel supported and trust me with their editing needs.

03

Genuine
communication

Open communication is absolutely essential in the editing process. I honour the people I work with by communicating openly, listening well, and being approachable.

 04

Precision and  professionalism

Editing is about being as precise as possible and delivering expert services. I honour those who work with me.

SOME CLIENT LOVE

"SHE IS ORGANIZED, TIMELY, CREATIVE, AND MINDFUL ABOUT EVERY PROJECT. I GO BACK TO HER AGAIN AND AGIAN BECAUSE OF HER PROFESSIONALISM AND THE STANDARD AT WHICH SHE IS ABLE TO WORK."

“Lisa Frenette has done editing for me on three separate occasions and I cannot say enough about her workmanship. I self publish and regularly have personal and client projects that require content editing and proofreading. I am always satisfied with Lisa’s service. Five stars all around! She is organized, timely, creative, and mindful about every project. I go back to her again and again because of her professionalism and the standard at which she is able to work. Thank you Lisa.”

A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

THE WANDERING FEATHER

My first children's book, The Wandering Feather, is now on bookshelves! As a storyworker, it is a dream come true to see my own writing published. My work as an Indigenous editor has connected me with so many talented storytellers, and I've had the pleasure of helping them bring their own stories to the page. I have seen firsthand the change that we can make with the stories we tell. I am honoured that The Wandering Feather will be another story that we can share with our children and the next generations.
